On Sunday, October 5th, we'll be having a fun, meet the 830 day from 12 - 4. You have to drop by and see what this beautiful machine can do!!!!! We've been doing a little playing around and it has some really neat features - self-threading is a kick to watch! There is soooooo much that this machine can do, we're still getting to know it, and we're finding that is very learner-friendly (it never complains!), so come join in the fun as we play on Sunday.

Update from Lorraine
After a bit of sight seeing in Shanghai, school has now begun. Grace is settling in nicely and has already made a few good friends. She is attending the British International School in Shanghai. One of the biggest differences about school in Shanghai is the required uniform! I am happy and it looks quite cute - Grace is less happy about it, but it makes our mornings a lot easier. Gone are those interesting debates about what shirt she can and cannot wear!
She has had her first week of Mandarin Lessons and is being called by her new Chinese name. I can't spell it, but it sounds like "Gow Ray". Domenic and I start our lessons later in the week. My first question will be "How do you say Happy Quilter in Chinese?"
On the quilting front, I have joined a local quilt group in Shanghai. I could not believe that they meet once a week for several hours. How lucky am I? There are many ladies from all over the world. It is quite a multi-national group. There are ladies from Switzerland, Singapore, Germany, Holland, the United Kingdom, and a few ladies from the US. Each week they rotate the meeting to a different member's home and serve a light lunch. These have been some of the best lunches I have had while here! All the ladies mostly hand quilt and hand piece. Their work is also quite impressive and their tastes run from traditional quilting to art quilting. I feel very fortunate to part of such a wonderful group of women.
I have officially been in Shanghai for one month. The shop is running very well thanks again to the great staff at The Happy Quilter! New fabric has come in, and I hear things have been moved around to accommodate the 830 which is is due to arrive very soon. Everyone is quite excited about seeing it and playing with it, and I too can't wait to play! Hopefully soon we'll have some photos of it in the shop so we can all marvel at it.

An Adventure by Happy Quilters
The Metropolitan Museum has an beautiful collection of quilts. They are not in display , yet you can make arrangements for a private viewing through the "Antonio Ratti Textile Center". Maureen and Anne-Marie just went to view a Baltimore quilt dated 1849. The quilt was laid on a big table in the storage facilities under the museum. They savoured the beauty, the delicacy, and the extraordinary hand applique of the well preserved quilt. It was 2 hours of pure pleasure! Pictures were allowed, and so, you all get to get a glimpse at this
beautiful quilt.

beautiful quilt.

Now for Whales
Fun Times!
Lorraine and Grace have done some kid friendly sightseeing while waiting for school to start. Here is Grace on the largest ferris wheel they've ever seen at the Jing Jang Amusement park. Lorraine said she didn't send any photos of herself because she was looking a little green! That's Grace riding on a two level carousel. Love the view!!
Fancy Stitching!
